About Mari-Liis

I’m a Berlin-based Product Designer with over 8 years of experience in the retail and e-commerce industries and a Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design and Psychology.

I’m passionate about turning insights into meaningful experiences. My goal is to create a solution that makes things clear for everyone while helping to achieve business goals and improve the design process. I keep iterating and polishing to achieve the “je ne sais quoi” that makes the customer return.

I enjoy working in a team with other designers or cross-functionally with stakeholders from inside and outside the company. My positivity and kindness make me a valuable teammate to work with, as I empathize and profoundly consider the different viewpoints presented.

When I’m not working, I practice metalsmithing by creating silver jewelry. I also enjoy the outdoors and am an active boardgamer when the weather’s not cooperating.

Background

I was born and raised in Tallinn, Estonia. Within the last 10 years, I have lived and worked in Europe from one end to the other. The experiences have enriched me and I feel like I’ve become a little bit Portuguese, British, and German on the side, while still carrying my Estonian roots.

I’ve always been keen on creating and producing - my parents often found me unexpectedly building a birdhouse or sewing a snake plushie out of old stockings. Professional product design came to my life while studying at ESAD Matosinhos in Portugal and I was sold from the get-go.

My career has spread across Farfetch and Porto Tech Center in Porto, Portugal, and NewStore in Berlin, Germany.

A fun little 💪 rumor story

My ex-colleague who currently works in Meta told me that my quick filters solution created for Farfetch mobile app was discussed in their offices as a great example of how to approach filtering on product listing pages 🙌

Sometimes I make jewelry…

Humans, not users.

Values I’m Following

It’s important to see each unique person, not a crowd of users. Explain the context of their situation, take time to empathise and figure out what they’re trying to achieve.

Always learning.

Challenging and improving myself and others is important to keep growing.

Moments, not things.

I want to enable people to have confidence to be their best self, and provide clarity for their journey. Technology needs to be effortless to create engaging and positively surprising experiences.

Humbleness and respect.

Treat others as you want to be treated. We’re all humans and, in the core, share the same wants and needs.
